A Reason to Leave the House, Others

In this new digital world we are not always inclined to get out of our comfort zones. unable to have a deep underlining connection with those around us in our own backyard. We just do not have the same depth of personal relationships that we had 15-20 years ago. we are connected to a digital device and pages that tell us what people want us to see and hear versus actually knowing someone.
What does this have to do with getting out of the house?easy unplug, step away from the blackberry, iphone, or other device, and walk away for an hour of so. go for a walk to get refreshed, or head down to that local charity and see if they can use a new volunteer, or you can take that box of cloths that no longer fit.
when we step out and help others we feel better about our self’s, and enrich the lives of others. you can make a difference in somebody elses  life just by doing little Acts of Kindness randomly, it adds up. another thought of this is pay it forward, give a gift from the heart to the next guy and tell him to do it for someone else.

Dinner for the Homeless April 16

How-to help Friday

How-to help Friday is a new feature we are going to start running every Friday. it is going to be a brief profile of a local business helping in some way to reduce homelessness, or bringing a benefit to the community to help others. we ill also tell you how you can help.

This weeks Highlight is the “St. Augustine Christian Service Center”. I had the honor of being able to sit and pray with several individuals who came by for assistance. some of them I learned a little bit about, others did not share there story. I was particularly touched by one fellow who came in, he was looking for bread to make sandwiches for others. what an awesome way to help, making sandwiches to give to others. Check out that little nugget of Random Kindness

What they do- Share the love of Jesus by meeting the spiritual and physical needs of all who come. They hand out food bags, boxes, as well as personal items and bibles.  Praying with those coming and seeking help, and sharing the love of Christ with them.

Where they are doing this -  50 S.Dixie Highway, Unit #5

How to reach SACSC – 904-808-1557

Facebook page

When are they open. Monday – Friday 10AM -12PM additionally on Wednesday they are also open 4PM-6PM followed by a bible study at 6:15PM

Here is how to help the SACSC.

Food, canned and boxed protein items: mac’n'cheese, chili, meat stew, hamburger helper, canned veggies, fruit, meat, fish, milk-boxed or canned. ergo go to the store spend $20 on some boxed goods and drop them by. see not to hard.

Bibles, they hand these out to people so that they may have the word of God. this is food for the spiritual body, and the water of life.

Personal care items, Toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, razors, feminine care products, etc

or maybe you want to just volunteer, call them up and make a expression of how you want to help, they can guide you to there greatest needs.

Ask your self how can I help? that is step one, step two is Action. don’t just ask or muse about doing something DO IT.

what is People Reducing Homelessness?

have you seen me We all see them, the unlovable in society, holding signs and asking for money. Sometimes we make fun of them, other times we shy away from them due to smell or fear. Then we all have the story of this one or that one was lying about being homeless or just out to make some money scamming someone. What is worse is that sometimes we do not even see them, being so blinded by everything else in the world.
How can we help them? This is a question I have asked my self in the past, and still ask my self as I pass them on the roadside. There where times I would be close enough to a fast food place and I would go get them a burger and something to drink. Other times I felt led to give a few dollars or the change in my pocket. This at times did not feel like enough, I wanted to do more.

A few months ago a friend of mine said “hey, I know some people who need some web work done”
I said “Cool, give them my card.”
He said “Lets just go meet them”

This is how I was introduced to People Reducing Homelessness. I have helped add things to the website and now it is time we start promoting and getting word out so others can help. This website is going to keep growing and changing for the better. The website is for gathering and disseminating information from a variety of resources as well as people who with individual services can help. Not only is information for homeless is on here people of all backgrounds can use this site and volunteer and ask for help.
We are encouraging people, yes you, to help just by simply doing one Act or Random Kindness. You can do this once or a thousand times, we encourage one a day. This could be a simple act of taking your neighbors trash to the road, or buying that homeless guy lunch. You could volunteer to drive a group of people to a few appointments one day.

See its not hard to help, so ask your self how can I help? Then the most important part DO IT. I can almost guarantee you will feel great as well.
