A quick note

As I sit here thinking what to write my mind keeps going to 2 verses 1 is where Jesus is telling peter to fee his sheep. and the other is in Acts where it is talking about the early church that they sold all they had and shared with them that had not.

These are 2 very touching things to me. I think about them more than I may say, simply because of how profound it is. I think this really is hitting the command Jesus gave of love your neighbor as your self, on the head.

So in this short little post today, what are your thoughts on this topic?

The “P’s” Have It!

Submitted by Elizabeth Chauncey

Prosperity Bank works closely with People Reducing Homelessness, The Mission my husband Darrell and I have been blessed to share. Many of you may not be aware of this so I wanted to share what an impact our bank and many of you have had on the homeless of St. Augustine and the surrounding area.

Prosperity Bank was the first corporation to help “PRH”, as bottles of water were donated for the first PRH homeless walk in St. Augustine on December 26, 2008. many of you may have seen the picture in the st. Augustine Record, that showed the start of the walk from  the Castillo de San Marco.

Since then, PRH has grown with Jesus in many ways, including creating two homes which now house 13 previously homeless people; Reggie, Andrew, Kenny, Mia, Brian, Patricia, Bertram, Mike, Joyce, Larry, Joy, Johnny, ans Amanda.

Many of you here at our bank have helped them become established in out community by providing clothing, furniture, kitchen/personal items, and most importantly love and companionship. These small acts of kindness have impacted all of their lives in a tremendous way.

As well as now having a place to call home, many are participating in a treatment program that works to reaffirm their role as an active part of society, others have begun to receive their Disability/Veterans/Social Security benefits, and still others are now part of the work force in St. Augustine at Flagler College, On-Time Moving Company, and COA; one if many partners in the POP program. Jesus even provided a few homeless people in St. Augustine a bus ticket to go home to their families in other cities across the US

One of our success stories is about a man names Joe, who with the help of PRH has received his VA disability, his Medicaid benefits, a Medicaid doctor in the area and has entered into the Avanti Program to help him gradually and successfully move back into society in a healthy way.

We are very fortunate to work for a company that cares ti have a President who is out there feeding the hungry and assisting the homeless, as well as instilling in us a Passion for all that we do, while always being Cooperative and Smart in all of our relationships, is very inspiring.

What can you do? First please ask yourself. what do I want to do and what talent do I have that i can share to make a difference in someone’s life? it Could be as simple as a hug or maybe you could wash some clothing, or fix a bike so they have transportation to pick up some food at the Christian Service’s on Old Dixie Hwy. Whatever you choose to do, I can assure you every little bit will be deeply appreciated! Some of you may remember Travis Zipperer, who was a Personal Banker at our Moultrie office a couple of years ago, he is the official PRH mobile with his Bubba Truck, as we like to call it!

Please visit our website, prhstaugustine.com, to receive an idea of how God’s work is being accomplished “One Act of Random Kindness at a Time.” Eli Grimes is a local Musician who wrote a song for homelessness titled “the Homeless Dance.” Please go to the website’s homepage and listen to how each of us is doing the ‘Homeless Dance’ in some form whether stepping around them, avoiding there eyes, ignoring their stories, or actually offering our help in thought, word and deed, we each do “The Dance.” Lets make it a positive experience!

From our hearts to yours, thank you for all you do and please know how important you are to us and those around you.

As Tiny Tim once said, God Bless You, EVERYONE.

Success Stories

You know how all these places say there helping people and you may see a one or two sentence blurb from someone. But not really a whole testimonial. I really want to see the people they are helping don’t you. I want to connect and have that koinonia with an organization.

I want to better see who is being helped and how we are helping them. I think this more than just a fad in the world. I think transparency is going to be the new normal on this social web and just being on Twitter and Facebook will not be enough.

So starting next week we will be posting success stories of those that have been helped by you. Those lives that have been helped by your donations and your actions. We will be letting them tell there stories, so you know where they are now. for some this may only be a halfway point and for those we will update as more happens for them.

Passions for the homeless

There are so many times we can stand on a soapbox and shout, help this person or that person. but in the end we have to have a passion for helping them. not only in word but in deed.

When helping and ministering to the Homeless you have to want to do it. it is not like any other 9-5 job. You have to want to show up in the morning. you have to learn the needs of those you are going to help. but must of all your heart has to be in it, if not you are doomed to fail.

WHAT…

there are a few weeks where I stood here and told you how to help the different places we have showcased. this week im going to say nothing new to you. other than do you know where your passion is to help others? what field is it in? how are you helping to reduce this problem known as homelessness?

Catholic Charities – How-to Help Friday

Today’s featured charity is Catholic Charities. They have been helping since 1975, providing assistance to Flagler, St. Johns, and Putnam counties. Providing assistance in multiple ways like Homeless prevention, counseling, adoption, and community outreach.

The homeless prevention is accomplished by financial assistance. Providing monies for rent, utilities, and food assistance so that families esp. with small children may have and keep a roof over their head.  on occasion also providing deposits for rent and utilities to help people get off the street.

During the Holiday season they provide gifts to families with children, so every child can have something. Gift cards are also given to families so that they may shop and get food.

So here is how you can help. They are like all non-profit organizations looking for volunteers, non-perishable food, and financial donations. If you would like just hit the link in the box below and click around on their site and see if you feel moved to help them in any way.

What are the Assistance pages?

Here at People reducing Homelessness we have lots of information about other people and we are always trying to help give aid to others. Because of this we have links, phone numbers, and various information about several organizations. They in turn are the ones who offer the most help, but we have a small database that is accessible to anyone. This database is our Assistance pages(links on left.).
To date we have 36 organizations and Individuals who offer some sort of assistance to others. Clicking through the assistance pages you can see the various categories set up, and it makes finding the right assistance that much easier. Looking for food click on food, need money click on financial assistance, this will put you on a page with the organizations that offer assistance in the category you chose.
This is by far a list that is not complete, there are many organizations out there that may not be local that offer help that we do not have. maybe you personally have something to offer in the way of assistance? if you do dont be shy contact us and let us know what you can do to help so we can get you on the list.
